Local Food Bank Support

The Brick is a crisis intervention service based in central Wigan and whose aim is to help rebuild the lives of those in need. They help in many ways with Life Skills classes and assisting people to get into work. But one vital and much needed part of their mission is to help families in crisis by providing a food bank.

In recent months, the number of those seeking help at the food bank has increased, and they have been forced to put out an emergency appeal, as their shelves are empty. We are hoping that our parishes can help by providing items to help in this area. They welcome any non-perishable food items - tins, packet food and dried goods such as rice and pasta - as well as baby food and nappies and basic toiletries.

Our contact persons with The Brick, who transport your gifts from us to them, are Doreen and Jim Ellison from Sacred Heart Parish. They have recently received a letter from the staff, volunteers and clients at The Brick with a request to pass on their deepest thanks for the support you have given and continue to give to this project. A copy of the letter has been placed on the notice board at the back of each church for you to read.

The Brick have also told Doreen and Jim that, although they are grateful and still in need of whatever donations of foodstuff and toiletries you can make, a particular need at this moment is for disposable nappies in sizes 4, 5 and 6. Could we maybe help them out with this need?

A box has been placed in the piety shop at the back of both of our churches to receive anything you would like to contribute on your next visit to church.
